Help identify parrot

by Carolyn C

a friend recently bought a bird from a shop but nobody knows the species. It is kinda light green with a redish beak. Looks like a Quaker, but can't be as it's in California.

Bird Name

Thanks for responding. I went to the pet shop myself and discovered it is a very young blue Indian Ringneck. They also have 4 Macaws and a Red Belly. I notified the local Humane Society asking they check it out. It just seemed to pop up in a Hispanic part of town. The IRN was selling for $250. The Red Belly who had too uch down on its head to be just 3 mos was sold and they wouldn't tell me the price. Hope they are legitimate.

A picture of the bird would help with identification. What kind of pet shop sells any type of animal without knowing what it is? Your friend should take the bird to an avian vet for identifcation and a check up. If the pet shop didnt know what type of bird it is, who knows what kind of care it was getting while it was there and if it might be sick. All birds are highly intelligent and require special care specifically for each type of bird. They are not dummies that just sit in a cage and eat seeds. An avian vet will help indentify the species and give advice on proper care and feeding. This blog also has great articles on training for all types of birds. Once you find out what kind of bird it is, please do research on the internet for that type of bird so it will be properly cared for and live a long, healthy life.
