holding a budgie

Hi and thanks for writing. You will need to learn how to train them to step up on your finger. If you need to hold them to look at something on them, then close your hand around them where their wings are held gently and safely down so they don't hurt themselves. KEY WORD HERE IS GENTLY. DO NOT SQUEEZE THEM FOR ANY REASON EVEN IF THEY BITE YOU AS YOU CAN VERY EASILY BREAK EVERY BONE IN THEIR BODIES WITH ONE SQUEEZE.

There are training materials on the Parrot Training page you may wish to look at, and the internet is full of information about training birds. The very first thing you'll need to do BEFORE any training is to take both of them to see an Avian Vet in your area for a checkup to make sure they have no infections or other physical problems. Birds, especially the young babies, tend to get bacterial infections from being moved around and all the stress involved in getting used to a new home and family. So be sure to take them to AN AVIAN (BIRD) VET AND NOT A DOG AND CAT VET. The Avian Vet is the only doctor licensed and trained in the care of birds.

Congratulations on your new Budgies, and take the very best care of them you can for all their lives, and you will be rewarded with happy, energetic, funny and interesting little friends who love and trust you to do right by them.
