Hole in my Canary's beak and he looks like he's itching a lot

by Andrea Donaldson
(OX28 5FL UK)

My 2 year old canary suddenly looks like he's got a hole at the top left of his beak and it looks quite red. He seems to be itching a lot and often sounds like he's wheezing. Is there anything i should or shouldn't do?

Canary, itching with hole in beak

Thanks for asking. What you should do, is Find an Avian Vet in your area that can look at your bird in person. Dr B can't help, because he can't examine the bird to tell you what is wrong or prescribe the proper treatment.

If you can hear the bird breathing, then it is probably an infection, that will only get well with medication from an avian vet.
