How can i ship a parrott

by Michelle
(Newcastle)

HI all i have a bit of a pet problem hoping someone might be able to steer me in the right direction. I currently live in the uk but am looking to move to Canada in the New Year. 2 big questions.

Firstly how do i go about getting my cag across there with me. love her dearly and would hate to leave her behind.

Question 2 is there anywhere i could temp board her in Winnipeg area whilst i try to find a pet friendly home. i would love her to travel same time as me it would break my heart to leave her behind.

Shipping your bird.

Moving from 1 country to another, they have quarantine proceedures to rule out illness being brought from one country to the next. Take your bird to the vet, explain youre moving, and ask about the quarantine period, and requirements. The vet at the end of this time will give your bird a cert, saying he's free of contagious illness, and free to travel.

Once this is done, they do have "PET FLIGHTS". This is a plane that flies your pet from one place to another, even over seas. The plane is temp controlled, with cert'd vets on hand at all times. The pets are taken out of kennels and interacted with. It can be a wee pricey, but well worth it.

If price is an issue, most flights will allow a small carrier for your pet. They will be your ONE carry on. Ask the airport abt the size allowed.
This will allow you to slip the carrier under the seat during flight. I dont like this bc the guy behind you always kicks the carrier. Floors are never clean as you might think.

Call ahead to the vets in the city you are moving, ask about bording. Most vets where I live have boarding available. Make sure to visit your bird while he's in boarding so he doesnt feel abandoned.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
