how can i tell my nanday conures age?

by Lynn

Is there anyway I can tell or guess there age. I aquired 2 of them and was told they were 4 to 5 months. I'm just wondering if that is true or if they might be older/younger.......also they don't like to eat there pellets, but they eat seed i just feed them seed or give them just pellets and no seed?

Nanday Conure age and pellets

Hello Lynn,

As far as I know, there is no way to tell their age. Your avian vet may be able to give you a rough guesstimate when he/she examines them.

Most birds will only eat seeds if given the opportunity. We only feed pellets in the morning and add seed in the evening, at dinner time. This way they have pellets first thing in the morning when they are hungriest and they have to eat them. ;-)

Please read the Switching Birds to Pellets article for more information on switching your birds to pellets.

Please remember if your birds are not used to pellets, they have to figure out they are food. We have a parakeet that was weaned to pellets and didn't recognize seed as food for over a year. I put seed in the cage every day and he would not eat them.
