How do I get rid of the moths and worms?

by Michelle Sawvel
(Mt.Morris, Michigan)

My bird has an infestation of moths and worms. I hear it is from the food. How do I get rid of the moths and worms? How do I get rid of the moths and worms that are attracted to my birds cage?

Moths and worms in bird seed mixes
by: Tracie

You can mix a little diatomacious earth into your seed mix, this will keep the larvae from turning into moths. This can be purchased at feed stores. But if you freeze your seed for a week or so it will kill the larvae that is in the seed.

Basically seed crops that are not sprayed with harmful chemicals will have bug larvae in them. The bugs are not bad for the bird, but a pain for us humans. I prefer to deal with the bugs than have the chemicals kill my birds though.
