How do I know the gender?

I have an American white parrotlet and I'm not sure If it's a boy or girl. My bird has a blue streak down it's back which I have heard means it's a boy but it doesn't have blue on the wings which makes me think it's a girl. Please help me figure this out I really want to know also I need to know if I should change it's name.
Thanks!

The only way to know for sure is to take bird to an Avian Vet for DNA testing. In young birds where both the male and female are colored alike, it is virtually impossible to tell. Baby birds change a lot on the way to puberty, and unless you are going to breed this bird, which I don't recommend, it does not matter so much. Name your bird a name that could be for a male or a female and enjoy it. If you don't want to do the DNA testing, just wait until it is older, and then behavior can tell you which sex it is. Do some reading about your bird and learn about its behavior and how it needs to be taken care of as this is usually done before getting a bird.

Studying birds is a never ending process, so get you a book about the type of parrotlet you have and then you can find more information on the internet.Tracie has some good books out here.

Your bird also needs to be eating a high quality organic pelleted diet, and Tracie carries several kinds here. We use Harrison's, and it has proven to be the best I've tried.
