How long do you let a hyacinth keep an unfertilized egg.

by Peter
(Florida)

This is the 7th egg 6 in the summer and now one in October we have tried taking it away and letting her sit for a week or two. Concerned for her health. We give her a cardboard box so that she doesn't lose her food to bottom of tray. We will take box away and see what happens.
She is about 28 years old hand raised, she started laying eggs a couple of years ago this year though she seems to be constantly laying.
Any help appreciated.

Bird laying eggs

Typically you let the bird keep the egg until they are not interested in it. Please read our Chronic Egg Laying article written by an avian vet for more information on this situation.

You can purchase fake eggs if you are concerned about having rotten eggs.
