How much should a 4 mnth old umbrella cockatoo weigh?

by Rhonda Kennedy
(Conyers, Ga. USA)

I just purchased a 4mnth old umbrella cockatoo, still hand feeding once a day but cant seem to get it to eat supplemental foods like pellets, fruits, vegis etc.. I'm concerned with how much he should weigh & whether something else I can do to get him interested in eating his pellets or other foods or if I should go back to hand feeding him twice a day? His hatch date is May 10th, 2011..

Thank you, Rhonda Kennedy

What you really should do is take the bird back to the breeder so that the bird can be properly weaned. If you want to continue to try to wean this bird, I recommend that you set up a phone consultation. Believe me you're gonna need it. (Contact Tracie at this website if you need to set up a phone consultation with me.) This is a challenging issue and cannot be adequately covered in an email answer.

I have also attached an article I wrote about weaning babies.
