How much should my 10 week old lorikeets be eating?

by Mell
(abbotsford Vic Australia )

I have 2 beautiful rainbow lorikeets. I have been offering them two heaped tablespoons of dry mix every day (which they never fully finish) and different types of fruit. They have a wet mix every couple of days. They seem healthy and happy but I can never get a direct answer re quantity so I have just been doing what I think seems right.. How much should i be giving?

Baby lory feeding

There is no measured amount that has been researched to feed. They should have ad lib dry nectar, ad lib dry pellets. The wet nectar should be removed after 2-3 hours and given 1-2 times daily. The same is true with the fresh fruits and vegetables. Dry nectar should be about 35% of the diet. Dry pellets about 15-20% and the rest should be fresh foods.

How much should my 10 week old lorikeets be eating?
by: Anne

It's all about trial & error, I give my birds more than they need in the knowledge they have enough foods.
I have just added 2 more cockatiel chicks & they were very greedy so I let them eat what they wanted for a couple of weeks (as they were babies when I bought them) then cut the food down to what I thought was the right amount. There is always some left over which is normal.
They all have calcium, eggfood, fruit & veggies as well so I suggest to you, to go by your own instincts & what you see!
