How to teach my bird to eat?

by Milton
(Coconutcreek, FL)

My DYH is six months and it seems to me that he does not know how to eat? Anything he tries to eat he breaks it up into little pieces that fall on the floor. I give him pellets, grape, apple, carrots, crackers, pears, egg, rice and other things. Please let me know how can I help him learn to swallow? I saw this Congo in YouTube eating and he would swallow his food.

You need to get your bird into be examined by an Avian Vet immediately as this is an emergency situation. If your bird is not eating, it will die and very quickly too. Maybe it was not weaned properly.

Stop feeding crackers as they are full of fat and salt, both killers of birds. Stop feeding eggs and other junk food. Find out what is wrong with Avian Vet's help.

Feed your bird only organic pellets found here, and do not make any changes in diet until your bird has been seen by an Avian Vet. Any changes except to stop feeding junk food to him.

Once you're done with Avian Vet, then follow the instructions below to change bird over to a healthy diet:
Switching Birds To Pellets article

If you do not or have not already taken him to an Avian Vet, he may die or already be dead. Please get this bird examined right away.
