human-to-bird illness

I have had a flu-like illness and now my bird is sneezing. Is it likely that my bird would get sick from me? What are some measures I can take to protect my bird when I am sick? I love my litte Sun Conure more than anything and would feel terrible if I got him sick. He has an appointment with his vet, but I am still very worried about him.

Humans passing illness to birds
by: The Vet

It is not possible to give our birds a virus like the flu. However, we can pass bacterial infections to our pet birds. And if we have a virus infection, there is a chance that we have a secondary bacterial infections anyway.

So, anytime you are sick, don't kiss your bird, keep him away from your face, and always wash your hands before handling him.
