i think my kakariki parrot is about to die

my kakariki parrot is looking pretty poorly. hes losing feathers and weight. he is approx. 6 years old. i understand they live to about 5 to 7 yrs. but im not sure about that either. we had another kakariki parrot and she died at about 5 yrs. old. could you let me know if i should take him to a vet or just let nature take its course. thank you. dennis and vicki

Kakarikis needs avian vet

Your bird is young, and maybe the people that told you they die young is because they don't feed their birds high quality pellets or purchase their birds from breeders that raise healthy birds.
