No, he didn't fly away because he was unhappy, he flew away because his wings were not kept clipped. All parrots, regardless of how good they are looked after, if given the opportunity to fly free, they will.
It looks like you loved your parrot very much, but if you get him back, you need to take him to an avian vet and have his wings clipped, so he cannot fly away again.
