Identifying a solid colored parrot breed.

by Sarah
(Commerce ga)

I rescued my "parrot" about seven months ago. Its medium sized, and solid blue. But a blue so dark its almost black. The underside of the wings, actually is a vibrant blue, but you rarely see it.I can't seem to identify him/her. Solid doesnt seem to be normal. She imitates sounds and 3 words. Can anyone tell me if its a conure or Caique? I just cant figure it out!! Thanks

It is possibly a Hyacinth macaw. they're a vibrant blue though I'm not sure about a different blue under the nellie. They're also a large parrot & you didn't state the size of this bird or any other features it may have.

Identifying a solid colored parrot breed.

You'll have to post a larger, very clear picture of your bird before we can possibly identify it. The only blue parrot I know of is the blue ring-necked parakeet, and you'd know it by it having a neck ring. Also the blue is not dark.

So, post a picture so everyone can see it and help you with this.

The other important issue is to take this bird to an Avian Vet in your driving area right away. Birds who are found outside or who have been abused/neglected in someone's home can have many physical problems like infections and/or inside/outside parasites. The avian vet will most likely be able to identify bird for you.

Please don't wait on the trip to Avian Vet because infections, if left undiagnosed and untreated, kill birds as do out of control inside/outside parasites like mites or worms.

Thanks for writing,
Linda
