Improve Feather quality in Umbrella Cockatoo

by Reshma

My Cockatoo Taz is 6 months old. He eats well and spends a lot of time outside the cage. However I feel he is not as healthy as the other cocokatoos I see on websites. Also, his tail is a bit daggered.I dont think he has maulted yet. Please advise supplements to improve feather quality.

Thanks for your inputs.

Is there a way for me to send you some pictures of Taz. The breeder says that malting will take care as these are his first feathers

Thanks

The best thing you can do for your birds feathers and overall health is to feed a good , well rounded diet. I would never give vitamins unless recommended by a vet. All birds are different in their needs and tolerences. Lots of fresh veggies, some fruit and nuts, and seed to balance out the diet is the best way to go.

Cockatoo in India

You need to take your bird to see an avian vet in India, because we don't know what is available here, or if your bird has something internally wrong with it.

Please, if you are not able to take the bird to an avian vet, then at least call one or a really good breeder to find out what the best food and supplements are available there. You need to feed the bird properly, so that it gets it's nutrition in the food, not in vitamin supplements, or you risk killing your bird due to it getting too much of a particular vitamin.

Here is a link to our Find an Avian Vet page. If there is not a vet listed in your area, then there are links at the top you can follow to search other sites.
