Training an indian ringneck parrot
by: Tracie

The bird just needs some training and you need to learn it's body language so you can respect when it doesn't want to be bothered.

Please read the training and health articles on our Parrot Training page for help with training.

Same experience with our Indian Ringneck
by: Anonymous

We got our Indian Ringneck at 5 months old from someone that hand raised her. She was never trained properly and the owner had no time for her. To make a long story short, we have her today 3 months and she went from doing everything your parrot is doing to stepping up and finallyyyyyy trusting us. ROUTINE is the KEY and don't let your parrot know that you are afraid of her bites. Do not force petting, touching or anything, just repeat the same words, repeat the routine and your Indian Ringneck WILL catch on. We figured out that our Indian RIngneck likes to touch everything so we would trick her to get something by having to climb up on us. After a while she was not afraid to go on the hand. Dont over crowd your parrot, meaning while you are trying to handle him/her someone is standing behind it or on the side of it. They get nervous. Everyone should keep distant and deal with the parrot one on one. Don't break the routine! Ours did not trust HANDS and today she can't wait to jump on to it because she knows it will be FUN!
