Injured leg

by Linda
(Fort Wayne, IN )

I came home tonight to find my parakeet hanging upside down. Not an unusual sight, but this went on for about a half an hour. I took a closer look and found that his leg band had gotten hooked on the hook that his swing hangs from. I'm not sure how long he was hanging like that.

Now he won't bare any weight on that leg. He does have some movement and tries to climb the side of his cage. When he perches he just dangles the leg. The leg does not appear to be broken, but I can't be sure of this. Should I take him to an Avian Vet? Not sure we have one in this area. Thank you in advance for your advice.

Bird with limp leg

Yes, you need to Find an Avian Vet for your bird. It is likely in pain and it is obviously injured.
