Injury.

by Daria
(Minsk, Belarus)

Hello. My budgie's leg has been sprained for 1 week and it doesn't seem to heal. He moves it to the side, tries not to stand on it and limps. When he sits on perches he's alike sitting down lower and lower, bending his legs and actually touching the sprig with his belly. Few times I found him sitting in the bottom of the cage in the such position.

We give him the homeopathic vet medicine for injuries and vitamins now. His cage is in the kitchen, it's usually warm in here, but we heat at night his cage. Budgie does well himself: he tweets, talks, eats a bit less than usually, but normally. But his leg..i'm so worried and disappointed about it.

How long does it take to treat bird's leg as usual? What shoud I do now? Can I accelerate this? Help me please, I couldn't find really good vets in my city, let alone avian vets and I'm absolutely confused about by poor budgie.( And I'm beforehand sorry for my English, I'm not a native speaker)

Bird injured

I really wish Dr B could help you with this, but without examining your bird to determine if the leg is actually sprained or broken or what, he can not help you. There is not anything over the counter that will help your bird, unfortunately.

Please contact a good breeder in your area, they will likely have some experience with injured birds and may even have a good vet that they take their birds to that can help you.

I know you said there are not any avian vets in your country, but just in case you might look on our Find an Avian Vet page. There is a link at the top that you can click to search for a vet in your area.
