by Michael

What will happen if i introduce a male ringneck in with my female ringneck of 8 years, will they get along, or could it turn ugly?

Never put two strange birds together in the same cage as this can and does result in death for one or both of them.

You have to put the new bird into a cage of his own for a long time. Put the cages near each other so the birds can get to know each other without the stress of being too close together.

Also, this kind of bird cannot be put together for breeding before the hen is 2 years old because of the possibility of hen becoming eggbound which frequently kills the hen.

So have another cage ready for the new bird, and leave things alone for several months. I also recommend taking both to an Avian Vet to be checked for infections and to have wings clipped. The new bird is likely to have a bacterial infection which will be given to the female. While at the vet, have their wings clipped which will help when they start coming out of cages together. Have only the 4-5 Primary Flight feathers clipped, and these are the long ones at the ends of each wing. Do not ever have them clipped up any higher because this causes lots of pain for the birds. They also fall like a rock and will be hurt with broken bones.
