Is the Goto Kolu plant toxic to birds?
by: The Vet

I am not familiar with this plant. If your bird has eaten this plant and is now showing symptoms of toxicity, then you need to call Animal Poison Control Control center 1-800-548-2423 and then see a veterinarian.

Kathleen, it is Linda again, and I went out and found a site that has which herbs are safe and ones to stay away from.

You may need to copy link and paste it into your browser window, it is

http://www.landofvos.com/articles/kitchenxv.html

If you find you need more information, just do a search on "are herbs safe for parrots to eat". Your regular Avian vet probably won't recommend ANY herbs, so you'll need to find a Holistic or Naturopathic Avian vet to speak with about this subject. You may find some of them on the internet.

YES, YOUR BIRD IS BEING POISONED. THOUGH I'M NOT SURE WHAT GOTO KOLU IS, I KNOW THAT BIRDS DO NOT AND CANNOT EAT MOST IF NOT ALL HERBS. PLEASE STOP ALLOWING BIRD TO EAT THIS OR ANY OTHER HERB PLANT. BIRDS NEED TO EAT ONLY ORGANIC FRESH DARK LEAFY LETTUCES, YELLOW SQUASH AND SOME BAkED POTATO. A LITTLE APPLE AND BANANA MAY BE WELCOMED AS WELL. VEGGIES AND FRUIT SHOULD BE FED IN VERY SMALL QUANTITIES JUST A FEW TIMES A WEEK AND SHOULD NEVER BE MORE THAN 10% OF A BIRD'S TOTAL DIET.

I recommend you take your bird to an Avian Vet in your area to be treated for possible poisoning. Never allow your bird to eat anything that has not been cleared by a knowledgeable person or an Avian vet. Do this BEFORE bird eats whatever it is you have a question about not after.
