Is my bird nesting ?

by intriqued owner

Hi have a pet lory who has full range of the house and outside. We play chase, wrestling and hide-and-seek and he has plenty of toys to keep him occupied.

However he has recently taken a liking to going into the main bedroom, hiding under the bed with a tissue or piece of paper and tears it to shreds. When under the bed he becomes very protective of the area and won't let myself or my husband near the bed. The other day I caught a glimpse of him kicking the tissue behind him into a pile. He doesn't do this anywhere else. Is he trying to build a nest?

Nesting bird

I would say "yes" your bird is trying to nest. It is suggested that you can shorten the daylight hours of a hormonal bird to snap them out of this mode.

Hopefully some of our readers will have other suggestions for you.
