Is my Nanday Conure trying to swallow my finger?

My Nanday, Freddie (Formerly named after the late, great Freddie Mercury) does what I think, tries to swallow my finger. He likes to beak, it's how he greets me. Especially after learning kissing noises. He likes to beak my fingers in particular.

But recently, about a week ago, he has started to do something really strange. When he puts my finger in his beak, I can briefly feel his gag reflexes making swallowing movements, and he puts my fingertip right at the back of his beak, then starts making a twitching movement throughout his body, like he is trying to regurgitate, or swallow a large piece of food.

Should I be concerned about this? Is my bird trying to eat my finger? Could he accidentally choke or get it stuck? Also, what precisely is he doing?

conure "eating finger"
by: Tara

I have two conures, a Nanday and a Jenday. This is actually a sign that your bird really loves you. He is mimicking the parent feed the off-spring. My birds do it too. They shake their head and may actually regurgitate a little food, ewe. But remember he is "caring for you."

Conure likes fingers

I don't know why your bird does this. I am not a breeder, but wonder if having your finger in it's beak reminds it of being hand fed.
