Is my parakeet sick?

My bird's butt is bright red and the feathers around it are missing. If my bird is sick is there anything I can do to help her?

Yes, your bird is sick
by: Linda

Of course your bird is sick. If you were to see something like this on one of your children, you would KNOW THEY WERE SICK AND TAKE THEM TO THE DOCTOR. Your bird is sick with possibly a bacterial infection that will get worse until you take her to an Avian Vet in your area.

Just call and make an appointment so she can be diagnosed and prescribed the correct medication. Never use medications someone gives you or those you find in pet stores as these may not be the right kind of medicine for the type of infection your bird has. They can also make matters worse if you are ever inclined to do this. I don't even now why they are allowed on the market, but won't go into that at this point.

I do not mean to sound harsh, but when you see swelling, redness, blood or other obvious signs of illness or injury, please go ahead and take your bird to an Avian vet.

Thanks for writing, and keep us posted on what vet says about your bird as this can help other people with their birds.
