Is my red-rump parakeet injured?
by: Linda

NO, it is not safe to breed this bird. Your bird needed to have been taken to an Avian Vet and treated for the infection he most likely has from this injury. You cannot just ignore injuries or illnesses as you are required by law to take your birds to Avian Vet when injured or ill.Even if the law did not require it, humans who really love their birds take their health and well-being seriously and take them to Avian Vet when injured or sick. You may need to take another look at your reasons for having birds in the first place. If you cannot offer them a safe home, healthy diet and trips to Avian Vet at least once a year and always when injury or illness is present, then you may be working in the wrong area.

So, until both birds have been examined by an Avian Vet and proclaimed either healthy or any infections or injuries have been treated, you are absolutely not ready to breed.

If I have stepped on your toes a bit, then maybe it is time someone did just that. I do not try to hurt people's feelings, and the bird's feelings and lives are what I am here to protect at all costs, so please take advice in the constructive/informative way it was intended. Best of luck with your birds.

Linda
