kakariki paralised foot

by katrina
(wentworth, nsw)

we have a 1 year old kakariki parrot.
today it woke with a paralysed foot (he is holding it in a club foot position) and is dragging it around.
The bird lives inside and is handled regularly.
he has not had a change in diet.
he has not been exposed to chemicals.
he has not had any injuries.
no new birds have been introduced into his enclosure.
he is very quiet, as apposed to his very loud self.
can you please help me with what could be happening, what can I do to help him?

Thank you for all the information. There is really no way of knowing what is causing this without a physical examination. It could have a tumor or an infection, it could any number of things.

Please use this Find an Avian Vet link to find an avian vet for your bird so it can be examined to determine what is wrong and what the potential treatment might be.
