Legs not working

Why would a seemingly healthy bird just stop all of a sudden using it's legs, holding them next to the body like they are paralyzed. It cannot grasp anything or hold onto the perch and this happened in a mater of seconds while cleaning the cage. I'm baffled.

Bird's legs not working
by: Tracie

Dr B has been away, and would not be able to tell you without an exam anyway.

Since you said you were cleaning the cage, this could have been a reaction to a chemical you were using. Sometimes birds have seizures from tasting or smelling toxic items. If you do not use a toxic-free cleanser in your home, then please consider purchasing safe cleaners not only for your cage but for your home. Even breathing the chemicals like Lysol and bleach can kill your birds. Some birds have died from plug-in air fresheners.

Here is our Toxic / Non-toxic for birds list for you to look over. Please Find an Avian Vet for your bird right away.
