lorelet parrots growing white spiney feather on his head

What causes the growth of a thorn-like spiney white feather on top of the head of my lorelet? He gets powdered bird feeds of lory-life nectar and lory-life powdered feeds combine. Is he getting too much nectar? This is the first time I've seen him with this spiney stuff on his head. Please help. thank you. Angie

These sound like new feather shafts which come up through the skin like this. Once the end comes off, the feather will start to come out of the shaft. If it is not this, then it could be a parasite, or infection of some kind and you'll need to take your bird to an Avian Vet.

Thanks for writing,
Linda

spiney on top of head
by: jamie

I was wondering the same thing. My parakeet is going through the molting stage and is loosing what seems to be lots of feathers short and long but no bare spots on his body. Could the spiney on top of his head bee from loosing/molting feathers.
thanks
