Lorrikeet poop changed texture

Hi My Lorrikeet is about 5 months old, and yesterday his poo changed texture. He went from pooing a very running liquid poop about every 10-15min to doing quite a firm poo with minimum urine and mostly faecal matter less often. He also seems to be putting a bit of effort in to releasing his poo.

He is still behaving normally and is full of energy, but I am a little worried. I did recently buy a different nectar mix because I couldn't get a hold of the one I usually use (it doesn't seem to be as good quality). I also feed him a mixture of grapes, apple, banana, watermelon and occasionally mango, pear and plum daily.

I've recently started putting some wild eucalyptus flowers in his cage as well, which he loves and eats. Should I be worried, and if this change continues do I need to take him to a vet?
Thank you very much for your help
Clara

Lory with firm poop
by: The Avian Vet

Yes, he needs to see an avian veterinarian annually regardless if he is sick. The change in his droppings is likely food related and is probably not a problem. It may also be that he is not getting enough liquid in his diet.

Take him to an Avian Vet ONLY immediately as this is not anywhere near normal. Also look on our Toxic / Non-toxic for birds list found here to see if the flowers are toxic. I've put Eucalyptus leaves in parrot's cages before but not flowers, and the flowers may be toxic. You may also be feeding too much fruit, so ask the Avian Vet for a recommendation on fruit to nectar ratio.
