Losing A Parent

I have two 3 week old and one 2 week old baby budgies. Today the father escaped. I wanted to know if the mother is capable of looking after and feeding all 3 babies on her own or if i will need to help out with some hand feeding. I have never before seen the father feeding them only ever the mother even when the eldest two come out of the box it is always her that feeds them.

It is normally only the Mother who feeds parrot babies, so let her do it. The males usually watch over everyone but do not normally feed babies.

If any one of the babies does not gain weight every day, then this points to a possible infection, and they'll need to see an Avian Vet. You always need a gram scale so you can weigh babies every day. Any day when even one of them does not gain weight means an illness is there, and baby birds do not have any immune system and will succumb to these infections quickly.

While you are at the Avian Vet's, please have the Mother's 6 long primary flight feathers trimmed so she cannot also fly away. Just the six primary feathers at the ends of each wing are enough so they can land safely but not get enough lift to fly off. Birds do not need to be flying all over a home as there are many dangers they will encounter.
