Loss of weight in Cockatiels

I breed cockatiels as a hobby and I have noticed on occasion that a female has died. When I pick her up I notice that she is very skinny (chest bone). And I also have many losses in the nest. Sometimes handfeed babies are extremely difficult to wean, more than 10-12 weeks. What is happening?

You need to take the birds you are breeding to an avian vet for a health check to make sure they are healthy and should be breeding. Then, if you have a mysterious death, take the bird that died in for a necropsy to determine if you need to treat other birds, remove the parents from breeding etc.

Please use this Find an Avian Vet link to find an avian vet for your bird so it can be examined to determine what is wrong and what the potential treatment might be.
