Purchase a better cage

You need to invest in a cage that has a removable grate that keeps the birds off the bottom of the cage. Until that time, newspaper is safer than sand paper.

If you continue to allow your birds to walk around in their poop and dander, you will eventually have sick birds. If your birds bathe and drink out of a dish, they may end up with bacterial infections also.

Purchase a cage with removable grate that will keep your birds from getting to the poop and paper.

If your birds do not have a water bottle to keep their water clean, then teach them to use a water bottle soon.

If you are not feeding your bird Harrison's or Roudybush pellets for 80% of their diet, then please read our Switching Budgies To Pellets article that was written by avian vet Dr B.
