LOVEBIRD DIES (MISDIAGNOSED WITH LEAD POISON0

I took my lovebird to Millineum Vet Hospital in Pickering, Ontario. for routine check up. The vet and her inexperienced Assistant restrained my bird for too long. he was terrified, they gave him blood work, beak trim, nail trim and other checkup, when she placed him in the pot to weigh him he passed away, I am so broken hearted, I cannot stop crying, I loved my bird so dearly, I have spent thousands of dollors in vet cost to assure my bird health.

Over a year ago, he seemed puffed up and I took him to this vet,she then gave him ex/rays, blood work and treated him with chelation treatment, he stayed in the hospital for one week, ever since i brought him home he never recovered, Last week when he died, she bluntly told me he never had any zinc or lead poison, ever since I brought him home he has been drinking and urinating tremendously, could she have damage his kindneys from the treatment that she had given him. Please explain I love my bird so dearly, I keep blaming myself for taking him to the wrong vet.
He would still be alive had I taken him to a more experienced vet. thank you

Hi Theresa,

you probably won't read this, but thanks for the warning - I've just moved to the area and was debating taking out CBC to Millenium, but now I think I'll bite the bullet and take the long trip to Links again! I'm sorry this happened to you, but I for one will definitely heed your advice.

LOVEBIRD DIES DURING CHECK UP
by: Anonymous

So sorry for your lost, this is so heartbreaking. You mentioned that when you took your bird in for a check up,a few years ago, the only symtoms he had was been puffed up. I am just wondering why this vet took all these ex-rays and treated your bird with unnessary medications, this must have contributed to the bird getting sick after been treated by the vet, he was treated with the wrong medication and his liver must have gotten damage. This vet seems to be either, does not have any experience with birds or she just cared about the money. I am so fortunate to have a good Avian Vet. I have a peach faced lovebird too, I usually travel over one hour to take him for a check up, he was highly recommended by someone. In the future you have to make sure you research your vet and find out what is the percentage of birds she sees in a week. I hope time will heal, just remember your little guy knew how much you loved him.

lovebird dies misdiagnosed

I too have had a bad experience with Millenium City Vet Hospital. The staff there are very unprofessional, they only care about the money not your pets. upon entering with your pet, they ask for payment first before even examining your pet. My bird eventually died after being treated at that hospital. The medication was too strong for her; she started to get worse, I miss her terribly and will never forgive myself for taking her to see that vet.It has been over six months, she is still in my heart. I loved her so deeply.

Lovebird died
by: The Vet

There seems to be multiple issues here. It is possible that a healthy bird could die from handling. It has happened to me only a couple of times in 20 years, so it is not that common. In most cases, there is underlying disease that was undiagnosed. However, if the person handling and restraining your bird was inexperienced, this could have contributed to your bird?s death.

Please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss. I am so sorry to hear that you had such an awful experience. You should not let this experience cloud your judgment when deciding to take another bird to a veterinarian. Most avian veterinarians are very qualified.

Theresa, I feel so bad for you. Losing a pet can be so heartbreaking. You did the best you could for your little guy - please dont beat yourself up over this. He may have had other illness issues you were not aware off.
