Lovebird dragging leg

by Carlos Velasquez
(Suffield CT)

My little lovebird is dragging her leg and she is also nesting. She is able to use her feet to climb and she open and closes her feet fine, but when he walks she drags her leg. Could you advise. Thank you very much, my kids are very worried.

Lovebird possible egg binding
by: Tracie

Dr B can not help, since he can not examine your bird. It is possible it is egg binding, especially if your bird's diet does not consist of 80% healthy pellets like Harrison's pellets. You need to get your bird to an avian vet asap.

It could also be a tumor, or any number of things. But since you said it is nesting, I am concerned that it is egg binding, and that is fatal if the bird can't lay the egg.
