Low weight parrots?

by M Asif Arain

My African grey parrot about 13 months old. Weigh 464 grams...
Main diet hagen pellets with fresh fruit and veggies all day and a bit of seeds at night to satisfy his hunger. Have alexandrine parrot 16 months old weigh about 223 grams. Same diet with african Grey.
Any suggestions about increasing their weight. Thanks in advance
Only Zupreem and Hagen pellets are available in my country...

Low weight parrots?

Chronically under-weight birds sometimes have infections or other physical issues that are causing this problem. You will need to find an Avian Vet ONLY in your area to give both birds a thorough exam. Avian Vet is the only vet licensed and trained in the care of birds, so do not take to a dog and cat vet unless they are also licensed to diagnose and treat birds. This is very important in that birds have no fat on their bodies, and it is very easy to overdose them on meds especially by people who know next to nothing about birds. The avian vet will look for bacterial and viral infections and will also draw blood for basic blood panel to see how organs are functioning and if any problems show up.

Your diet sounds like it is good, so the avian vet is your next step. Underweight birds always have something wrong which keeps their weight down, so you need to find an avian vet soon as possible so you can get to the bottom of this.
