lump on side

My african grey parrot who is 28 years old just all of a sudden started to lose feathers on his left side just under the neck area. It looked pink but now it is turning grey. Where the feathers dropped out at is a lump. looks swollen to me but I never saw a bird loose feathers before in a certain area. Do I need to get Him to a vet or no? He hasnt stopped eating or talking or screetching either.

Kearol,

Are you serious? Your African Grey that's 28 years old is losing his feathers also has a lump under his neck and you're ASKING if you should or shouldn't take him to a vet? After reading what you wrote I "think" the lump that you saw under his neck wasn't really a lump BUT his crop and you don't seem to know that. Or could it really be a lump? Maybe but I don't believe I! And yes you DO need to take him to an AVIAN VET and immediately. Also he could be sick and still eating, talking and screeching so don't let those things fool you.
Please buy some books or go on Google and search for the type of bird that you've and educate yourself. I don't think that you know anything about birds. Please learn to take care of your bird; God bless you both.

Bird with lump and feather loss

Yes, you need to take your bird to an avian vet to determine what is causing this and what the treatment should be.

Please use this Find an Avian Vet link to find an avian vet for your bird so it can be examined to determine what is wrong and what the potential treatment might be.
