Lump under wing

by Carolyn
(Manchester NH)

We have Quaker that is 5 years old and is a plucker. We discovered a rather large bump under it's left wing. If you run your finger on it he bits at you. Is this lump something to be worried about?

Ben to the vet

Hes been to the very for the plucking. The vet said hes crazy, said the plucking was nothing to worry about a long a the feathers grow back. They did blood work and everything. It's been a few months now when we discovered the lump that wasnt there before. I read that it could be a fast deposit from food? He loves all human food so could that be it?

Editor's note: Human food is bad for birds and if you did not see an avian vet then find one to examine your bird.

Lump under wing of bird that plucks
by: Tracie

Yes, it is something to be worried about. You need to Find an Avian Vet to examine your bird. It is possible that the plucking may be related to what is causing the lump.

Sometimes birds pluck because there is something inside bothering them, like a tumor or bacterial infection.

Please read our Feather Damaging Behavior article before your vet visit. It was written by an avian vet.
