No Need For Vet If It's That Old

If it has a red rump, it's a boy. If it's dull coloured and has no red rump it's a female.

A DNA test is the only sure way to tell sex of a bird that is still young. You also need to take your bird to an Avian Vet in your driving area for a good checkup to make sure it is free from infection, parasites or other physical problems. All new birds and all rescued bird must be taken to Avian Vet immediately so they can either be diagnosed and treated for a problem or given a clean bill of health.

The Avian Vet can take a small amount of blood for the DNA test while you are there.

Thanks for writing,
Linda
