male bourkes' parrot lump

I went to worm my male bourkes' parrot today when i noticed a large lump above his vent, it is quite large (about 4cm across), red and is soft. He is about 3 years old, and has been acting completely normal. What could this be?

Bourke's lump

Why deworm your Bourke?s? Do they live outside and have access to the ground? The mass may be a prolapse or a tumor. This needs to be seen by an avian veterinarian immediately.

You are worming your birds for what reason? Are they kept outside and you have had them diagnosed with a certain parasite, and you are giving Avian Vet prescribed drugs?

If you have not had your birds diagnosed as to what type of parasite they have and are giving over the counter meds, you may very well kill your birds. The lump needs to be seen by an Avian Vet, and bird needs to be diagnosed with a parasite before being treated for one. Never use any over the counter remedies even from a pet store because until you know exactly what is wrong, it cannot be successfully treated.
