Maroon-Bellied Conure having seizures

by Kaitlynne

Hi. I have an 8 y/o MB Conure and he randomly started having seizures on the way home from getting his wings clipped by the vet. I suspect that they drugged him because he has never had seizures before this and he was acting very lethargic and unlike himself. when he had a seizure what i believe to be his male stuff popped outside of his body from his rear end. He has had 1 or 2 seizures since then. so, 1. could the vet possibly have drugged him/ could that be causing the seizures? and 2. is this normal during a seizure for a birds insides to pop out?

Conure having seizures with prolapse
by: The Avian Vet

This is a very serious situation. The male parts that are hanging out are life-threatening. It is possible that the handling was the cause of the seizures and the prolapse too. Although it is not common to sedate birds for wing clips and other grooming, I have heard of veterinarians doing this.

First I think that you need to contact the veterinarian that did the clip and let them know what has happened, then I recommend that you take him to see a specialist to see what is going on.
