Amazon parrot mean
by: Tracie

It could be that you need to study Amazon body language, because they usually show their displeasure with their eyes and feathers.

Some Amazons go through a hormonal period where they can't be handled. Some last a few months and some for years. Please do some research on Amazons to learn more about this and how to deal with it. I am not an expert with this.

We do have some training material on our Parrot Training page that might help too.

mean for no reason...
by: Maggie

Mine does the same thing. He can be so sweet one minute and then the devil's pet the next. I read it's hormonal if ruling out any sickness. He tends to show more aggression towards me when my son is visiting. He's a jealous bird, no doubt. I love that stupid bird despite his weird ways.

mean for no reason
by: Linda

There is always a reason for a parrot "getting mean", and it is your job to find out why. The first thing to do is take bird to be examined by an Avian Vet to make sure he is not sick. Changes in behavior are the first sign of illness, so do not delay having him checked out.

After you've seen the Avian Vet and had your bird examined, write back in, and we'll go from there.
