Messy eater

My bird is having a really hard time eating. He tries to take a bite but the food just shatters and goes just about everywhere but in his mouth. I take him to Animal Medical Center and they said that his beak is fine and doesn't need to be trimmed. We have also tried different sized bird food. He eats Harrison's High Potency because he is a bit under weight at the moment (he has always been under weight but this food seems to be helping). Is there something we can do to help him?

Bird difficulty eating

To help Dr B answer this,
1) What species of bird do you have?
2) How old is the bird?
3) Are you feeding Harrison's fine?
4) Did an avian vet examine your bird?

When our birds eat their Harrison's pellets, lots of crumbs go everywhere also, so not sure if what you are describing is normal or not.

If the medical center doesn't have an avian vet, as opposed to a vet that will see birds, then you might consider finding an avian vet to see your bird. No avian vet can determine anything online, because they can't examine the bird.

Please use this Find an Avian Vet link to find an avian vet for your bird.
