female Meyers
by: Anonymous

Hi, I have a 2 1/2 yr old female Meyers parrot. I know many people say females won't talk, but apparently my little "Skeeter" didn't get the memo. She will talk to you all day long, we taught her to say "peek-a-boo" and "good bird" but she thinks it's hillarious to put her own spin on it. She started combining all the phrases we taught her. and putting different inflections on them to get a funny reaction from us. Now she'll say "peek a boo", "pretty bird" "peek a bird" "that's a good bird", "I'm a good boy" (we thought she was a boy when she was a baby.) "Eric" "ACHOOOO" she'll cough when I'm sick, she growls like our kitty when she get's mad. and she'll laugh, and any and all the combinations of these things and more. what a funny little thing, and a PERFECT first bird or parrot if you don't want the bigger ones. She loves to cuddle with mom and loves almost anyone that comes by. very social with people although I think she'll always be an only bird. (she's very protective of me around other birds) If you're thinking of getting a parrot, or any bird for that matter, pick a Meyers and you can't go wrong if you socialize them young!!!

meyer's parrot

They orignate from south africa, around the cape. I have ameyer's and she's not afraid of any size bird. Her personality is that of a small , but fierce dog that doesn't realize that it is small. My female will get along with other birds, as long as it's on her terms. She loves to have her head and neck rubbed.Even though my girl doesn't talk she makes her feelings known. She uses body posturing, shrill whistles and kissing sounds. She will "play dead" and responds to her name. She is loaded with a big personality in a little package which more than makesup for her subtle coloring,(the males have more yellow on their head and more color on the front edges of their wings. The males also can be taught to talk.) Meyer's are very good at breaking out of their cages which leads me to believe that they are intelligent. They are also human friendly , expect you to treat them with dignity and tenderness. They make great pets because of their size and demeanor, but at times they can be loud for their size. Goodluck with your Meyer's experience

I have a female Meyer's . She doesn't realize that she's small. When she cleverly breaks out of her cage she picks on my macaws! She does get along with other birds, but on her terms. Meyer's are from south africa near the cape area. The females don't talk , but have no trouble communicating their needs and feelings. They are very clever birds that can be amusing. Enjoy!
