Molting or not?

I have a 5-6 month old budgie, and he has been losing a LOT of feathers lately. He usually loses the little white fluffy feathers with the occasional colored feather. But now he has been losing a lot of colored feathers, usually the facial ones.(They are really small and striped.) The good news is that he doesn't have any bald or bare spots on him, and he seems pretty active and acts normal. I think he is molting but I'm not sure.

Here are the things I want to know: First of all, is he sick or molting? And secondly, what kind of food should I give him to strengthen his feathers if he is molting? Thank you!

Your bird needs to be eating a high quality organic pelleted diet all the time. All seed diets are very poor diets in that they have no quality proteins, vitamins or minerals and are mostly fat which is not good for a bird. The best high quality organic pellet found here is called Harrison's, and get the fine grind for the size for your bird.

Before changing diet, your bird needs to be examined and cleared for infections or other physical problems by an Avian Vet in your driving area. Once he has either been cleared or treated, then you can start changing him over to a diet that guarantees healthy skin, feathers and all things physical.
