Moluccan Cockatoo death

Hi,

Don't know if you'll be able to help, but my Moluccan cockatoo die on the vets table...is it possible for a moluccan cockatoo to die from being injected (by 0.3ml Batril) too deep in the chest?

Thanks.

If you took your bird to an Avian Vet, then they know how to give injections safely. If you took your bird to a dog and cat vet, then they may have helped kill him as they are not even licensed to diagnose or treat birds. Most times, they will do nothing and sometimes they will try and help and give too much medicine or give it incorrectly. Birds have to be diagnosed as to what kind of infection they have before they can be treated. If this vet did not do any tests then they did not know what kind of meds to give.

It sounds like your bird was very sick, and once the birds are allowed to get very sick without being taken to an Avian Vet, they will die. Birds have to be examined by an Avian Vet at the first sign of illness. Birds that are off their feed, tired and listless, have runny poop, runny nose or eyes are all sick and will not get well without being diagnosed and treated by an Avian Vet. We are very sorry for your loss, and make sure you have an Avian Vet for your bird before getting another one as avian vets are part of having birds.

Hi,
I'm sorry I can't help you but just wanted to send you my condolences.

I absolutely adore the cockatoos of all kinds.

Again I am so sorry for your loss. I would talk to another Avian vet to see if this is normal. Hopefully Dr. B will see your question and can help you.
