Moulting and undigested seeds in parakeet poop

by Mike
(Oro Valley, az)

ALoha We have a one year old parakeet that recently moulted and this moulting seems longer than normal. There are still a bunch of new feathers coming onto his head, but the main concern was that for about a week, he had some undigested seeds in his poop.

I havent noticed any more in the last few days, but the energy level is still low and he is sleepin alot.

any thoughts?

Thanks,
mike

This is what Dr B told another person that posted the same question...

"It is best to put your bird in a small cage or aquarium and put a heating pad on high then cover it with a towel. Cover half of the cage with a towel to hold in the heat. He needs to be in 90-95ºF.

There are several things that can cause these symptoms. You need to have some diagnostics done to determine the cause and THEN give treatment based on the results. I would also recommend that you assume he is contagious and isolate him from the rest of your flock.
