Mourning Dove eye

by Angie Ross
(Madera, Ca US)

I have a mourning Dove that on occasion itches one eye and then closes it..Itches under her eye and top of her head. Do I have a problem.?
Eating is excellent, In a very clean environment. She is the only bird here.
I take her out for sun and give vitamins, oyster shell, and minerals. She gains weight all the time as I monitor it.She was hatched May 4, 2011.
eye is clear with no discharge or swelling.
She was exposed to the other Doves in the neighborhood for 3 days and came back home...
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately Dr B can not tell you if something is wrong without examining your bird. Since your bird has been exposed to wild birds, you really do need to Find an Avian Vet for your bird to make sure it does not have a disease.

Ask your avian vet about what is best to feed your bird. Adding vitamins to the water often shortens the birds life, because it gets too much of some vitamins, depending on the feed. It is VERY easy to overdose a bird and kill it. It's tiny organs just can't handle them.
