My african gray has gas

My darling african grey Magic is 8 yrs old I have had him since birth and recently he has a lot of gas. I have not given him anything new to eat, I noticed that he experienced this when I gave him broccoli but I haven't fed him that in 6 months so what's up.

He winces and crys like he is in pain and then he toots, poor little thing. He is a very picky eater and has coughed up more seed and digested liquid (whatever that is) than normal more frequently any ideas? I have not varied his diet.

Your bird is very sick and on the way to death. I am not kidding here, and this bird needs to be thoroughly examined by an Avian Vet ONLY as quickly as you can get an appointment and get him in there. Birds do not have gas which is bad enough here, but when they begin to throw up undigested food it points to a serious possibly terminal viral disease and not just an infection. The longer you wait, the more you are guaranteed your bird will die as you watch.

Be sure and tell avian vet everything you have mentioned here in particular the vomiting up undigested food. This is serious and bird should have already been diagnosed and treatment begun way before now. Take him to an avian vet only because a dog and cat vet will finish killing him since they aren't even licensed to look at a bird much less diagnose and treat it correctly. Avian vets know how to diagnose and treat birds, so find one quickly before your bird's time runs out.

Sounds as though your bird is sick. I seriously would consider taking him to an avian vet for a wellness exam.

An avian vet needs to physically examine the bird. I would also suggest a blood panel to ensure his organs are functioning properly.

GL I hope he will be okay. Please dont wait to take him... birds are much more delicate then other pets.

Hi Debbie, your little Magic is very ill and needs an Avian Vet as soon as possible. According to what you wrote, I understand that he is having pains because he cries before pooping. It sounds to me like he is having much difficulty. Something is definitely wrong with his stomach or intestine. He needs a vet ASAP so please DO NOT DELAY this matter and cause Magic any more pain. He can't even speak to tell you how he feels so please get him the help he needs very quickly. Take care of him Debbie and let us know what happens after you take him to the vet, thank you and God bless!

The fact that you have not changed his diet, means it is more likely that he has an infection or something. Please use this Find an Avian Vet link to find an avian vet for your bird so it can be examined to determine what is wrong and what the potential treatment might be.
