My africian grey is sleeping with head lower than her body

by Linda Barton

she doesn't' do it all the time but it concerns me something might be wrong. It's like she's asking for a head rub with head down and tail up, tho' she seem to be sound asleep. She would stay like this all night if I let her. Have you ever heard of this or seen this and should I be concerned.. Thank you so much for your answer.

Bird sleeping with head lower than body

This may not be an indication of a health problem, but you should have your bird examined by an avian veterinarian. This could be a symptom of neurological disease. Birds need to be seen annually for well bird check ups and vaccinations.

I've never seen a bird sleep like this, and it may very well be a cause for concern.

If it has been over a year since your bird's last checkup with an Avian Vet, then now is the time to have him checked for infections and have some basic bloodwork done to make sure all organs are functioning properly. We recommend yearly exams to make sure birds are healthy and to catch infections and other problems before they bring bird way down.Once a bird goes down, it can take a year or two to get them back to a semblance of health again, so the yearly checkups are very beneficial for all birds.
