My Africian Grey Parrot feather loss

I noticed about 2 weeks ago that my parrots feathers were missing just under the lower beek. Is it possible for her to have done this?? Is this something I have to be concerned about?? The bird was very vocal and now she isn't.

There are a number of reasons: 1) could be medical, vet check is good. 2) Too HOT. 3) Left alone too many hours a day. 4) upset, something else getting the attention. 5)Hand raised baby thinks it should look like you.(this is a very real problem) need to be introduce to another grey that knows it's a bird. (yes they are that smart and sensitive). 6) At age 10 they will start going into their mating age. Many different attitudes can arise. 7)Diet, different foods, seed, nuts, fruit, nexton vitamins, exercise out of the cage. 8) if bird has been left alone too long for too long they can go crazy (NO JOKE). 9) Room temp 76 to 82f is best. 10) Don't expect it to stop right away, it didn't happen suddenly and it will take time to stop. If you don't have time for the bird either get it another of it's kind(opposite sex) or find a home that will have the time. Good luck to you both!

Editor's note: Avian vet for over 30 years says, NO vitamins should be given to a bird unless prescribed and monitored. You can cause kidney failure. Birds should eat 80% high quality pellets like Harrison's or Roudybush to get complete nutrition so that they don't need vitamins.

Yes, it is something to be concerned about. You need to take your bird to an avian vet to find out what is causing this. It could be an infection or something more serious.
